Our client, an independent financial news wire services, is looking for a Japanese-speaking investigative journalist to report on M&A, shareholder activism, and corporate finance in Japan, with a focus on developing sources and producing market-moving stories. The role, reporting in to the Editor in chief, would suit a mid level, professional journalist, potentially based in Japan, Singapore or Hawaii, with a track record of getting scoops and building up a network of financial news contacts and sources. You need either experience of reporting on M&A activity in the Japanese market, or genuine interest in building coverage in this area.

The organisation is looking to expand its coverage in Asia, you will be the first and therefore have great opportunities to build a team in the mid to long term. If you have been an investigative journalist in a bigger organisation, you will love the autonomy and ability to make your own decisions, access to company owners and transparency of this business, as well as the flexibility to work remotely. The ideal candidate would be an accomplished financial and business journalist with experience in or interest in M&A, capable of building expertise in the Japanese market.
